Different theories about children’s learning and development as well as our own values and beliefs, will impact on our pedagogy (how we teach), and our curriculum (what we teach) at Arkie.
As educators, our understanding about how a child learns and develops is understood and explained by our own knowledge of these theories and by our own experiences.

We are passionate about constantly exploring our knowledge base to think deeply about our ways of teaching. This is how we evolve and adapt to improve our practice.
Research from the United Kingdom indicates that specific pedagogical approaches (such as Montessori, Steiner etc) do not have better outcomes than more general approaches. We believe that with such an abundance of good research available, limiting our approach to one theory of child development would be blinkered.
We therefore draw from a range of perspectives to challenge ourselves in how we do things so that we in turn create a fun and exciting learning environment which responds to the unique way that each child will learn and develop.
The Arkie way of teaching includes elements of socio-cultural theories that among other things emphasise the importance of respecting and understanding a child’s own community and the impact that has on their learning and development.
To understand just how special Arkie is, you have to see it and experience how we do things.
We encourage all families to come for a tour, meet our teachers and explore our learning environment.
