Arkie Education

Food Philosophy

Arkie Early Education Centre is committed to making a lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of every child, teaching them from their early years how to lead a healthy, balanced life.

We respect that every child is different, with individual food preferences, appetites, cultural needs and own stages of reaching developmental milestones. We recognise that every child has a natural way of growing and consuming food that is right for them. As such, we encourage healthy choices and create a relaxed and inviting environment around meal times.

We are a nut free Centre and happily cater to children with food allergies, special dietary and religious based food requirements.

An understanding of the natural world is a source of not only great curiosity, but great fulfilment

Mealtimes at Arkie

At Arkie we provide 5 meals throughout the day.  Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and if your child is with us later in the afternoon – a light supper to tie them over until they enjoy dinner at home with the family.

During these mealtimes, we enjoy time together with our children as it is not only a happy activity, but also an opportunity to teach and learn.  For example, children develop fine motor skills when learning to use cuttlery, they gain independence skills when helping themselves to the food they would like to eat.

There are social interactions that occur when you share a plate of food with your friends.  Children can even learn numeracy skills during mealtimes as they count out the different servings of fruit for instance.  At Arkie, learning opportunities are endless!
